Donal O?Shea named New College president

Donal O?Shea was appointed as New College of Florida? president, replacing Gordon ?Mike? Michalson Jr. who will retire July 1.

O?Shea, an internationally recognized mathematician, currently is the dean of faculty and vice president for academic affairs at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass., according to a written statement.

The New College board of trustees approved his appointment after a national search by consultants.

The appointment has to be approved by the Florida Board of Governors?.

Michalson has been president of the Sarasota-based college since July 2001.
