MANILA - Homegrown companies belonging to the Association of Filipino Franchisers Inc. expect domestic sales this year to grow by a fourth as many member-firms expand across the country.

In a press conference, AFFI executive vice president Ricardo Z. Cuna on Thursday said revenues of the group?s 70 members are poised to increase by 15-20 percent from P457 billion last year.

With 30 more companies joining AFFI before the year ends, total sales could rise by 25 percent, he said.

Positive economic prospects as well as franchisers? expansion are driving growth, Cuna said.

Citing a University of Asia and the Pacific report, AFFI said franchising accounts for 5 percent of the Philippines? gross domestic product.

?Philippine franchising is now fourth [biggest] in the world and the leader in the Asean region in terms of the number of franchise concepts and franchise outlets,??AFFI president Armando O. Bartolome said.

He said 200,000 franchise stores in the country have generated about a million jobs.

Several Filipino franchise firms such as Aqua Best, Lay Bare, Potato Corner, among others, have also put up stores overseas, Cuna said, but AFFI does not have data of its members? sales abroad.

With a bullish outlook, AFFI will hold the 11th Filipino Franchise Show with the theme ?Galing ng Pinoy? on October 12-14 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

More than 30,000 visitors are expected to flock to the show?s 300 exhibitors from the food, retail and service sectors.

During the expo, Television and Production Exponents Inc., which produces the popular TV show ?Eat Bulaga,? will receive a ?Galing Pinoy Franchise Excellence? special citation. A franchise of ?Eat Bulaga? was launched in Indonesia last July.

To date, AFFI?s annual franchise show has generated a total of P100 billion in sales and created 78,000 jobs, Bartolome said.

?AFFI?s shows are very effective platforms for entrepreneurs who wish to engage in micro, small and medium enterprises and learn about franchising,? he said.
